Bulgaria sank 24 points in the third stanza to pull within 13 points. But Croatia limited their opponents to just 13 points in the fourth quarter to race to the trophy.
Borna Katanovic (197-SF-2006) scored 26 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, while
Roko Jemo (191-G-2007) contributed 21 points for the champions.
Kaloyan Kolev (PG-2007) and
Mihail Kalinov (2007) netted 12 points each for Bulgaria.
3-4 Place
Romania - Georgia 68-70Georgia
stepped onto the pedestal in Pitesti. They nipped Romania to earn
Bronze medals and therefore clinch promotion. The hosts led by one point
at halftime 41-40. But Georgia held their opponents to just 6 points in
the third stanza to surge ahead for good.
Mate Khatiashvili (2008) produced 23
points, while
Avtandil Bakhtadze (204-F/C-2007) had 18 points and 15 rebounds in the
victory.
Codrut-Alexander Dinu (187-PG-2007) tallied 31 points for Romania.
5-6 Place
Hungary - Estonia 73-68Hungary
earned the fifth position in Division B as they held off Estonia.
Hungary recorded a 19-12 lead after ten minutes. They held on to a
narrow lead throughout the reminder of the contest and drove to the win.
Mark Mezofi (197-F-2007) and
Zalan Flasar (203-F-2007) tallied 17 points each for Hungary. Oliver
Kullamaee replied with 17 points for Estonia.
7-8 Place
Czech Republic - Slovakia 53-65Slovakia
earned the seventh position at the championship. They overcame Czech
Republic on Sunday. Slovakia recorded a 34-25 halftime lead. They held
Czech Republic to just 28 points in the second half and raced to the
victory.
Maros Golian (202-PF-2007) produced 25 points for the winners.
Lukas Smazak (187-G-2007)
answered with 15 points for Czech Republic.
9-10 Place
United Kingdom - Denmark 69-83Denmark
finished ninth in Pitesti. They overcame Great Britain to end up the
tournament on a high note. Denmark registered a 42-30 halftime lead. The
Scandinavian team poured in 24 points in the fourth stanza to race to
the win.
Noah Norgaard (189-SG-2007) and
Joost Dalgaard-Duus (196-G-2007) tossed in 16 points each for
the winners.
Nojus Zajankauskas (191-SF-2007) and
Kelvin Aigbogun (193-F-2008) replied with 14
points each for Great Britain.
11-12 Place
Sweden - Bosnia 61-65Bosnia
earned the 11th place in Division B as they overcame Sweden. Bosnia
posted a 36-27 halftime lead. Sweden narrowed the deficit in the second
half but could not avoid the loss.
Armin Korlatovic (206-F-2007) scored 18 points and
grabbed 14 rebounds for Bosnia.
Lukas Gyllensten (188-G-2007) replied with 17 points
for Sweden.
13-14 Place
Luxembourg - Portugal 63-69Portugal
defeated Luxembourg to earn the 13th overall position at the
championship. The teams went neck and neck throughout the entire
contest. Portugal snatched a 36-35 halftime lead. They held Luxembourg
to just 28 points in the second half to secure the winning outcome.
Lucas Barreira (181-G-2007) delivered 12 points for Portugal.
Philippe Stoffel (178-SG-2007)
answered with 16 points for Luxembourg.
15-16 Place
Iceland - Ukraine 83-72Iceland
clinched the 15th position in Pitesti. They overcame Ukraine in their
final game at the tournament. Iceland piled up a 47-38 halftime lead.
They extended the margin to double digits in the third term and coasted
to the victory.
Gudlaugur Davidsson (191-PG-2007) scored 20 points and grabbed 9
rebounds for the winners.
Roman Potieiev (188-SG-2007) answered with 22 points for
Ukraine.
17-18 Place
Austria - Holland 58-76Netherlands
wrapped up their campaign with a comfortable win over Austria.
Netherlands trailed by one point at the first break but they responded
with a 43-21 run in the next two quarters to surge ahead for good.
Dominic Mack (196-SG-2007) recorded 15 points in the win.
Peja Strobl (2007) tossed in 21
points for Austria.
19-20 Place
Norway - Switzerland 73-85Switzerland
outgunned Norway to finish their Pitesti campaign. The Swiss side
opened a 46-25 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the win.
Simeon Maret (192-SG-2007) hauled in 17 points for Switzerland.
Matthew Chifflier (194-G-2007)
responded with 24 points for Norway.
